BETTER BUSINESS

3 tips for doing international business.

I was approached by NZ Business to write an article on how Kiwi business can do international business better.

For those of you who know me, I’m all about practical tips & Simplicity. So, I gave them 3 tips around communication, from a more practical perspective, based on my last 10 years of working with businesses around the world.

“Growing your business internationally is a big step and takes a lot of detailed logistical planning, but don’t forget the importance of basic communication and understanding.”

The 3 tips are:

  1. Remove the uncertainty of colloquialisms
  2. Rely on a world clock
  3. Use a physical whiteboard

If you’d like to read the full article then it was published in the March 22, 2021 issue of NZBusiness.

BETTER LIFE

How to live your ideal entrepreneurial life

There’s a new book on the block, written by the Gino Wickmam, the Founder of EOS.

EOS is not just about creating a better busines, it’s about getting the life that you really want & this book will help you understand how you can get to live your ideal Entrepreneurial Life.

The reality is that many of us go into business wanting more freedom & the ability to do what we love & then we get bogged down in the day to day stuff of running the business or we get to a point where we just can’t let go. The business has. Grip on us rather than us having a grip on the business.

The EOS Life will help you discover, clarify, and customize the life you want to live: one where you do what you love every day, with the people you love doing it with — while at the same time making an impact, getting compensated very well for doing it, and still having plenty of time to pursue other passions, hobbies, and interests that energise you.

The EOS Life Book is part of the Traction Library of books – You can see all of the books here

Unfortunately, I don’t get any special deals on any of the EOS books, however if you would like to get hold of a copy of this book then I’d be happy to do a bulk order & get a discounted rate – Just let me know & I’ll secure one for you!

FIND OF THE WEEK

The Power of Introverts!

I am married to an introvert, which is fun for someone who, according to my Myers briggs Facilitator, scored the highest ever rating on Extroversion that he had ever seen!

Myers Briggs describe the two traits like this:

Extraversion (E)

I like getting my energy from active involvement in events and having a lot of different activities.

I’m excited when I’m around people and I like to energize other people. I like moving into action and making things happen. I generally feel at home in the world. I often understand a problem better when I can talk out loud about it and hear what others have to say.

The following statements generally apply to me:

  • I am seen as “outgoing” or as a “people person.”
  • I feel comfortable in groups and like working in them.
  • I have a wide range of friends and know lots of people.
  • I sometimes jump too quickly into an activity and don’t allow enough time to think it over.
  • Before I start a project, I sometimes forget to stop and get clear on what I want to do and why.

Introversion (I)

I like getting my energy from dealing with the ideas, pictures, memories, and reactions that are inside my head, in my inner world. I often prefer doing things alone or with one or two people I feel comfortable with. I take time to reflect so that I have a clear idea of what I’ll be doing when I decide to act. Ideas are almost solid things for me. Sometimes I like the idea of something better than the real thing.

The following statements generally apply to me:

  • I am seen as “reflective” or “reserved.”
  • I feel comfortable being alone and like things I can do on my own.
  • I prefer to know just a few people well.
  • I sometimes spend too much time reflecting and don’t move into action quickly enough.
  • I sometimes forget to check with the outside world to see if my ideas really fit the experience.

There are pros & cons to both. I often find myself putting my foot in my mouth or having people think I have agreed on something when I was just talking it out loud & I sometimes get frustrated by introverts J

So this TED talk was really useful for me.

“In a culture where being social and outgoing are prized above all else, it can be difficult, even shameful, to be an introvert. But, as Susan Cain argues in this passionate talk, introverts bring extraordinary talents and abilities to the world, and should be encouraged and celebrated.”

Almost 29 million views shows how important this topic is & I believe it’s a must see for both extroverts & introverts to better understand each other!

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

“Live every day as if it were going to be your last; for one day you’re sure to be right.”

Harry Morant

This weekend is the anniversary of the death of my darling Mum, 3 years ago. It’s been 3 years already, but I still miss her desperately at times.

Losing your brother & your Mum in less than 10 months really brings home what is important & so this time of year is always a good reminder for me. That’s why I chose this week’s quote – it reminds us that Life is too short…
