BETTER BUSINESS

Do Your People GWC Their Roles?

Patrick Lencioni reminds us, “Not finance. Not strategy. Not technology. It is teamwork that remains the ultimate competitive advantage, both because it is so powerful & so rare.”

And yet people are some of the biggest issues in our business – both getting & keeping the right people. In EOS ® we talk about having the right people in the right seats. By this we mean someone who not only shares the company’s core values (or way of doing business) but who also GWCs their role.

G = Gets it – that means they know exactly what is required in the role
W = Wants it – they truly want it, not just the salary or wages. It ticks all their boxes & more importantly they love the role
C = Capacity to do it – this is not only in terms of time but are they also technically  capable of doing the role

So, particularly when hiring, how do you make sure that firstly people really do share your core values &  how do you test this? And secondly, how do you ensure they GWC it?

The People Analyzer ™ is one of the EOS Foundational Tools & it helps you do this.

Read this article from EOS about going deeper with the People Analyzer because there is probably no bigger problem that a business faces than hiring the wrong person.

BETTER LIFE

So Who Doesn’t Love a Wine?

If you know me, you will know that I love a good Central Otago Pinot Noir or a great Champagne & I use them regularly to celebrate success 🍾🥂🍷.

So I never thought I’d find myself watching a documentary about alcohol & its harmful effects.

And yet there I found myself, not only watching it, but hooked on learning more.

What appealed to me about this documentary is that it’s a BBC documentary & we all know that all the best things come from Britain 🇬🇧😁

More importantly, it is presented by a ER doctor, so we know it’s not been done for shock factor. In fact he admits he’s a regular drinker himself & was curious to understand more himself.

“The Truth About Alcohol is a 2016 BBC documentary that explores common beliefs about alcohol.[1] It was made after the UK lowered the recommended amount of alcohol for men to match women’s at about the equivalent of seven pints of beer per week. It follows Javid Abdelmoneim as he explores the effects of alcohol on the body. The purpose of the documentary was to inform people about the realities of alcohol and its effects on the body as well as answer questions about why some people are more sensitive to alcohol, hangover remedies, the benefits of red wine, drinking on an empty stomach, effects of nightcaps on sleep, and other common questions.”

BTW – It hasn’t stopped me drinking but I am now more aware of what I am doing & what effects it has on my overall life, so I make informed decisions.

FIND OF THE WEEK

High Performance Mastermind Book Group

This year I joined a High Performance Mastermind Book Club. Sounds very fancy but in essence it’s a group of high performance business people who want to read business books & take learning from them but more importantly put those learnings into action.

We are now onto our 3rd book which is Brené Brown’s – Daring Greatly. The first was Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less  by Greg McKeown & the second was Atomic Habits by James Clear.

All 3 of these books are great books for Leaders in business & also help in your personal life – Habit stacking was a game changer for me!

But the most important find was that leaving books by the side of your bed does not mean then enter into your brain by Osmosis. Being held accountable at a book club means that, just like working with a personal trainer, you do the work & you get the results.

I’ve got a few new clients starting in the next couple of weeks so I am going to miss book club for the next few weeks but I’ll get back into it for the next book.

So, this week you get 3 book recommendations as great finds (Atomic Habits was my favourite) and also the opportunity to join a Mastermind Book Group.

If you’d like to find out more about the High-Performance Mastermind Book Group then please email me.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

Albert Einstein

I’ve been struggling a bit this week with Dad in hospital in Australia & it feels like I have lots of balls in the air – so this quote really appealed to me.

Remember, you can download this quote as an image for your phone.
