BETTER BUSINESS

Issues, what issues?

My goal in life is to help entrepreneurs to have a better life through creating a better business.

And you can’t create a better business without recognising that you have issues & working to solve them. I’m always worried when business owners tell me they don’t have issues in their business.

Issues are a fact of life. It’s time to embrace them!

In fact we know that business owners face common set of 136 issues throughout their business life.

So, “admitting that we or our businesses have “issues” doesn’t make us any less effective, incapable, or less likely to be successful as an entrepreneur — it just makes us normal.

Everyone and every business has them.

Issues are inescapable if you are pushing forward on your vision. I’ve yet to meet a “perfect” business, and I’ve found that the ones that pretend to be, tend to have bigger issues than the rest! So the sooner we throw our hands in the air, call it out for what it is, and admit that we have them — bucket loads of ’em — the better!

It isn’t the issues that are the thing. It’s how we choose to SOLVE the issues, the methods we employ, and the time frame in which it takes to address those issues that could lead to us and our businesses missing our goals and objectives (at least) or (at worst) ultimately having to shut down and fold up.

So how do we turn an issue into a solution?”

Check out this blog from EOS:

I spend a lot of my time working with teams to teach them how to resolves issues at their root cause & I’m always happy to help.

However, if you aren’t’ ready to or don’t want to ask for my help then my desperate plea to you is to please at least use the free EOS tools.

If you’re struggling with issues & making decisions then EOS has a great free book called ‘Decide’

“Many leaders are frozen with uncertainty, which holds their companies back from achieving their full potential. Leaders struggle with two challenges when trying to make good decisions: making bad decisions, and taking far too long to make them!

This eBook will help you and your leadership team make better and faster decisions, by teaching you:

  • The four discoveries that lead to world-class decisiveness
  • The 10 Commandments of Good Decision Making
  • A simple and effective decision-making track that can be used by every team in your company
  • How to solve issues that have been lingering for days, weeks, months, and even years!”

BETTER LIFE

Slow down!

“It sounds backwards, but slowing down is actually a faster way to succeed.

The antidote to the “always hustling” mindset is “slowness.” It sounds crazy, but slowing down can be the difference between success or failure, or between thriving and burning out.

While more and more personal coaches and social-media influencers, qualified or not, tout the hustle lifestyle, successful leaders and entrepreneurs who actually create results in their lives know that slowing down builds the foundation for their success.”

That’s what Inc has to say on the subject.

This article gives you four reasons why slowing down can actually help you accelerate your success, enjoy a deeper sense of fulfilment, and create the life you want.

If you’re looking for a tool to help you slow down, then I highly recommend the Clarity Break. A very simple exercise that takes you away from all the distractions, gives your mind a break &  slows it down, so that you can make better decisions – Here’s the article from Forbes that explains why & how –

FIND OF THE WEEK

The Ōura ring

If I’m honest I have had a pretty busy week & haven’t had much time to read or watch TED talks etc so this week I am sharing one of my favourite gadgets & how it has helped me to understand why I feel how I feel.

It’s no surprise that sleep is important to me (I talk about it often enough) & sadly for months good sleep had eluded me. I put it down to a whole raft of things, Covid burnout, time of life, stress, blue light from electronic devices etc.

Then someone recommended the Ōura ring to me.

My initial reaction was, “not another tracking device”. I’ve done lots of them – Leaf, Fitbit, Apple health etc. The 2 challenges were – they were uncomfortable to wear or took effort to wear & charge &/or I couldn’t make use of the information that I got from them.

However, I was desperate, so I took a pun & ordered the ring. That was almost 2 years ago.

I have now been monitoring my sleep & activity for almost 2 years with my Ōura ring,  & I have finally arrived at the 3 most important things for me to get a good night’s sleep:

  1. At least 3 hours between eating dinner & going to bed
  2. No more than 2 glasses of wine & preferably none – my quality of sleep is so much improved when there is zero alcohol
  3. Being regular with my sleep time

And I’ve also worked out what doesn’t work or help – Sleepy tea, supplements, getting off devices earlier, doing more exercise & lots of other things might not do any harm, but with me, they don’t seem to have the same level of impact as the 3 things above.

We’re all different so I’m not saying that those 3 things will work for you, but a long term look at what you’re doing & what effect it has, is the best way to work out what works for you.

What I love about it, is that it’s not only telling you what has gone on but the app makes recommendations on how you can maximise how your feel based on what’s going on & therefore you can start to create healthier habits.

Its website touts it as “The most accurate guide on Sleep, Readiness, and Activity.”

I think that might be going a little far but it’s certainly a great tool & unlike other fitness trackers, there’s no screen to distract you & it’s easily worn day & night, being so small & unobtrusive.

Plus with a full charge it will last 3-4 days.

They’re not cheap but the insights it can give you & the affect that can have on your life is priceless.

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

“Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast – you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” – Eddie Cantor
