BETTER BUSINESS

What gets measured gets managed!

It’s probably one of the most disliked tools in the beginning – The EOS Scorecard.

The idea of trying to come up with leading & lagging indicators that get measured every month does a few things to people. Those that don’t like to be held accountable get nervous & defensive. Those who love details tend to overcomplicate them & want to measure EVERYTHING. And then, most leadership teams don’t know where to start.

And sadly, this is why measurables or data don’t get a lot of love.

But the reality is that once you get an excellent scorecard (which can take up to 12 months – just saying!), the tool is invaluable for your business & it will probably be the thing that turns the needle in your business. Well, that & structure & great meetings!

So, learn to love your numbers, learn to love your scorecard & your measurables, & more importantly, just get started with one – you can always change it once you start & in fact, I highly recommend reviewing it & changing it regularly if your business is growing fast!

BETTER LIFE

Chat GPT – for better or worse?

Like me, I’m sure you have all struggled to deal with a chatbot on some website or phone system.

Olive from Countdown is one of my favourites – I can love her/it & hate her/it at the same time.

They’re supposed to be designed to make our lives easier, but they can be hugely frustrating at the same time. I’m not known for losing my temper but put me in a chat with a chatbot who doesn’t understand me & I start shouting at the phone. 🤬

So, you may be a little sceptical about the next level of AI – Chat GPT.

I know I was initially, but I am already finding it invaluable.

I started playing with it a couple of weeks back & I have been impressed by what I have seen.

I have had it write a poem for me, research some things I was interested in, write a few basic SEO blogs & do some killer copywriting for an event I am hosting in a couple of weeks. I’ve also had it write some website content & I’m about to use it to do a new landing page.

None of it was perfect, but it was infinitely easier than starting with a blank page!

Reality is it is much like working with humans – you need to be specific & give it a good brief on what you want & then you get better results. And much like working with people, you have to provide it with feedback, both positive & negative, so that it learns from the experience & delivers more value to you. What is the saying? Crap in, crap out!

There is a free research preview, so why not give it a go?

PS: This was not written by it, but one day, if it can help me to get more good content out, who knows?

FIND OF THE WEEK

Is this the way of future travel?

As the world opens up & I start to travel more, I am always nervous about being in an airport or being on a plane as the new variants of Covid start to spread.

So when I saw this headline in fast company, I was intrigued.

These could be invaluable not just for Covid but for countries where they don’t have great air in the first place. (Canada is not one of them, nor is NZ, but plenty of countries suffer from terrible pollution).

I don’t know how I feel about their look, but from reading the review, it could be a thing of the future. You saw it here first 😁

PODCAST OF THE WEEK

Networking: The Missing Piece To Work-Life Balance

Networking is often seen as a necessary evil in the business world, a means to an end of climbing the corporate ladder. But what if we told you that networking is not only beneficial, but a secret weapon in achieving success? In this episode with Dr Mark Stone, we delve into the power of networking and the importance of building relationships in the workplace.

One of the biggest misconceptions in the business world is that the climb to the top is a solitary journey. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. When we create networks, we’re creating long-lasting beneficial relationships. These relationships are reciprocal in the sense that we can pull on each other’s strengths and talents. We all have our weaknesses, but with a network of connections, we know people who can help us fill in the gaps.

One of the keys to achieving work-life balance and success in the workplace is being self-aware. It’s easy to get caught up in our own weaknesses, but it’s important to focus on our strengths. We can set ourselves and our team up for success by focusing on what we excel at. And when we’re self-aware, we can identify blind spots and work on improving them.

Loved talking to fellow EOS implementer Dr Mark Stone about this, life, the universe & everything!

If we are not a little bit uncomfortable every day, we’re not growing. All the good stuff is outside our comfort zone.
