BETTER BUSINESS

I know it keeps you up at night

“I fully experienced the emotional roller coaster of growing a private business. It seemed like self-doubt, discouragement, and setbacks just came as part of the journey.”

These are the entrepreneurial blues. No matter how confident & capable you are, entrepreneurship is a really, REALLY rocky road and you’re bound to hit some pretty significant speed bumps.  As entrepreneur and author Seth Godin says, “the middle of anything feels like failure.”

I can really relate to this article – for those who have known me for a while, you’ll know that I have had great successes & some massive failures in my businesses. Having experienced both sides of entrepreneurship, I’ve felt the full spectrum of delight & despair.

Like Dale from the article – some days, just getting out of bed was a challenge.

And as a leader, you exude confidence & passion to make sure your team is well-supported. But under the surface, we can be overthinking & self-doubting just as much, if not more, than the next person. It’s tough when you have to shoulder this alone, and when you’re a business owner, that often is the case.

This article discusses how to prevent the entrepreneurial blues when they inevitably hit.

So how can we overcome the blues?

“For the entrepreneurs I work with, EOS offers more than a business operating system. They find a community of people who’ve all been through entrepreneurial heaven & hell & can help them get through it too.” There’s a bit more about this community in Find of the Week as well 😊

BETTER LIFE

The ‘fun’ in fundraising

Think of the last time you helped someone – how good did that feel?

Giving makes us feel better, so how about giving to a charity & support our Kiwi children?

I’d like to ask for your help for a charity that I have been a Trustee for, for over 13 years.

Life Education Trust helps Kiwi Kids to lead Better Lives. I’m sure many of you remember Harold the giraffe from your school days or your kids’ school days. The programmes that Harold brings to the classroom are things not covered in the school curriculum – healthy body, healthy mind, peer pressure, drugs & alcohol. So it’s an essential part of growing healthy & happy kids.

We don’t take any money from government because we want our programmes to not be driven by politics. So, as Trustees, we raise all the funds required to run these mobile classrooms & the educators.

To aid with this, we’re running a charity fundraiser at our local Covert Theatre. I’ve joined forces with Wade Jackson & his team to bring you a fantastic night of comedy… All for a good cause 💖

Join Life Education Trust at the Covert Theatre for a high energy, hilarious show by the Improv Bandits on 15th June.

They have won world championships, performed with the stars of TV’s ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ and continue to delight critics & audiences worldwide.

So, you can experience a great show plus every seat sold puts a child through the classroom!

All additional donations are much appreciated & you’ll be able to ‘purchase’ your very own Harold by donating.

We are also auctioning a children’s programme (for 8-12 year olds) held at the Theatre (RRP: $295) for this great cause.

Tickets are $49, which includes 1 free drink & a donation to the trust. Pizza can also be pre-ordered for $5.50.

Grab your free drink at the bar from 6:30pm, and the auction will commence from 7pm. There’ll be a short presentation from Life Education Trust & Covert Theatre about what they do, then it’s on with the show!

You won’t regret an evening with side-splitting laughs, drinks & good company – and it’s all for a fantastic cause!

Seats are limited so get your tickets now:

Feeling alone in your EOS journey?

Being an entrepreneur can be really lonely. The challenges you face, the wins you celebrate and all the ups & downs in between – sometimes it feels like you’re the only one that truly gets it.

If you can relate to this, you are not alone. According to Harvard Business Review, 50% of CEOs from the CEO Snapshot Survey experienced feelings of loneliness in their role. The survey was conducted 2011/2012 so what are the chances of it being way higher now, a decade later? Especially after all the mandatory isolation & temporary business shutdowns thanks to Covid.

Then on top of that, as an owner or business leader that is running on EOS, your values & the way you work may be completely different to your peers. EOS shines a glaring spotlight at every nook and cranny of your business. It can be confronting, especially at first, because it feels like there is so much to fix – and it’s often things you have never considered before.

It can get overwhelming real fast.

That’s why it is so important to have a community around you that not only truly gets it but also can support you as you get through it.

I’ve been part of EOS Pulse for over 2 years. It’s a huge support network of fellow entrepreneurs running on EOS as they navigate & experience the EOS Life. And the best thing about being part of this community is that we all share the same core values of help first, grow or die, be humbly confident, do the right thing & do what you say.
