BETTER BUSINESS

#1 cause of a company’s greatness

I read this article & found it to be an essential read for business owners & leaders, whether you are running on EOS or not.

We start our own businesses because we love it. Passion is key – or else we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demands of being a business owner, but what else do we need to ensure the success of our business?

Gino Wickman discusses his key learnings from running 14,000 hours of EOS. He’s facilitated 2,000 sessions for 135 leadership teams and after all this, he’s been able to narrow down what it is that every great company has that makes it so great.

It’s not being first to market or being the most innovative, cutting-edge technology out there. It’s not even vision, execution or culture. It’s having a strong leadership team. It has everything to do with the specific people heading the major functions of the business.

In Gino’s experience, every single company that has consistently gotten what they want from their business as well as enduring & overcoming huge challenges like a pandemic or a recession, has had this one thing in common.

So how do you know if the leadership team is ‘strong’?

The article goes into the seven criteria of a strong leadership team:

  • Rockstars in every seat of the leadership team
  • 100% on the same page with the vision & plan
  • Speak one common language & run one operating system
  • Open, honest & comfortable with conflict
  • Fanatical about resolution
  • Treat each other as equals
  • They truly love each other!

Think about your own leadership team – how many out of 7 are you strong on?

BETTER LIFE

Swap-A-Bottle of AWA

AWA is Alkaline Water Aotearoa. With a pH of 9.4, this water is bottled at source in Riverhead from a depth of 190 metres. Past volcanic activity makes this water naturally contain minerals that make it unique, it hasn’t been chemically treated to increase pH.

Alkaline water has several proposed health benefits, such as immune system support and pro-aging & colon-cleansing properties. A few small studies have suggested that drinking alkaline water has a positive effect on health.

For example, a 2016 study of 100 people found a significant difference in blood viscosity after consuming high-pH water compared to regular water after a strenuous workout. This means blood flowed more efficiently with alkaline water which then increases oxygen delivery throughout the body.

Even though there seems to be a consensus in the medical & scientific community that there is not yet enough research data to validate what we believe are the benefits of alkaline water, it still tastes great & water in any form is good for you!

In AWA’s case, the water being alkaline isn’t the only thing that is good for us. AWA operates a circular economy, using reusable water pouches & cubes with the Swap-A-Bottle model. They are steam-cleaned before being refilled, ready again to hydrate a new home. Water that’s good for your body & a business that is good for the planet.

Read more of AWA’s story & find local stockists here – they’ll even deliver to your door at home or in the office.

FIND OF THE WEEK

End your week with a laugh!

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the world premiere of The Covid Response Team, an adults-only puppet show that comes with a warning – this show WILL offend. It’s Wade Jackson’s first theatre show – a satirical, political comedy under UV lights!

Steve & I loved it & even though we are politically diametrically opposed (as we are with many things… I’ll let you try to work out which way each of us leans!), we both found it hilarious.

They’re repeating the show this weekend, so if you get a chance, regardless of your political leaning, please do go along. You’ll be supporting local business & I promise it won’t disappoint.

At the moment they have May Laugh Fest on, so for the whole month of May there’s an exciting line-up of comedy shows like ‘Improv Magic,’ ‘A Bard’s Tale’ and ‘Instant Broadway.’ The best thing about Improv is how every show is different & delightfully surprising.

I’m sure we all need a night of laughter after a long week – what better than a hilarious show & a drink on your Friday evening!

More details about the show here:

I’ve also had Wade on my podcast to discuss all things Improv & Covert Theatre, as well as creating creativity in a corporate culture and using Improv as a mirror for self-reflection & awareness.
