BETTER BUSINESS

Are you too busy?

It’s funny – I used to use the ‘busy’ phrase regularly when asked how things were going. Now, I catch myself & I say productive, unless I really am not & then I say busy.

Because busy does not necessarily mean productive.

So, how does busy impact your business?

The article says that the two biggest issues behind “busy” are:

  1. “Busy” holds back individual, team, and organizational results because time and talents are not filled with the highest and best use.
  2. People actively max out their time, building stress and strains on the organisation’s ability to perform at an optimal level.

This EOS blog shows you how you can delegate & elevate to cure busy & have days that are productive, meaningful, and impactful.

BETTER LIFE

Are you surrounding yourself with the right people?

I am very privileged to have been chosen to be the leader for a new initiative in Auckland Central. It’s called Connector Communities & I am the Community leader for the newly formed Auckland Central community, although Connector, a BNZ supported initiative has been going for a while.

So, what’s it all about & why am I involved?

Well because I am passionate about helping Entrepreneurs lead their best life by creating a better business & this supplements the work that I do…. Plus I get to hang out with some pretty cool people.

It’s currently in Auckland  Central, Auckland North Shore and Wellington but will be coming to other cities later in the year.

Connector Communities : What are we building?

Connector is a local community of the owners of mid-market and fast growth companies and a diverse and trusted group of advisors/service suppliers that support them.  Our Connectors (advisors and suppliers) are a local trusted group that specialise in mid-market and fast growth companies – if they do not know the answer, they know who does.

The community gets together once a month, ten times a year in a structured environment that supports learning, sharing, connecting, and having fun.

We are:

  1. A no sales environment, and at the same time we are unashamedly commercial
  2. The anti-networking community – we are about building relationships over time, not collecting business cards and LinkedIn connections, and
  3. We are politics free.

We aim to provide you with a lifelong local business community.

How it works?

There are two separate activities with the community each month

  • Community Monthly Meet Ups – The community gets together once a month, ten times a year at EMA Business Hub – 145 Khyber Pass Road, Grafton, Auckland.

We generally meet on the first Tuesday of each month from February to November inclusive (dates are below in my signature)

The format is:

3.00pm – Workshops

Ted talk style interactive workshops delivered by our experts. These are designed to challenge you thinking differently.

There are the owners and leaders from over 50 other companies sitting at round tables.

5.00pm – Connect Event

This is a chance to catch up with the business leaders and guru’s you have met, and to chat to others in the room… and no sponsor commercials!  It is this regularity of contact that build you relationships, efficiently

  • Community Catch Ups (Cuppa Meetings)  This is a chance to meet other members in the community.  A schedule is published at the start of each month.  You can schedule to catch up separately or pop into the Meet Up early and chat there.

And – you can let us know if you have any particular question/issues/challenges and we will match you up with an expert to chat it through. (You can also use our App (see below) and contact them directly.

Private Community App

Each Connector community has its own private app.  This will include details of everyone in the community, who to ask for help, the Cuppa meeting schedule, and a few other helpful things.  This runs on the Appranet system developed by our partners, Putti.

It’s by invitation only, so if you’re keen to get involved then let me know & I will invite you as my guest.

FIND OF THE WEEK

The 4 biggest challenges

This article written by my colleague, John, is so simple & yet so powerful.

John Spence is an author, international executive coach, professional development educator, virtual trainer, strategic planning facilitator, keynote speaker and developer of online learning programs. John is recognized as one of the top business thought leaders and leadership development experts in the world and was named by the American Management Association as one of America’s Top 50 Leaders to Watch along with Sergey Brin and Larry Page of Google and Jeff Bezos of Amazon.

As a consultant and coach to organizations worldwide, from startups to the Fortune 10, John is dedicated to helping people and businesses be more successful by “Making the Very Complex… Awesomely Simple.”

I was fortunate to meet John when he came to my event space & did a presentation to the members of the Entrepreneurs Organisation, which I was also a member of at that time. He knew I was setting up the business & he took time to help me as well with taking photos for promo purposes!

I loved his energy, but more importantly the way they he simplified things down.

(PS: It’s also one of the reasons that I love EOS!)

In this article he share the 4 biggest challenges that executives & leaders of companies between $2 million and $50 million seem to have in common. And given that he’s worked with thousands of businesses, it’s interesting that it’s always the same 4:

1. Communicating Vision
2. Openly addressing challenges
3. Enabling mediocrity
4. Following through on plans

And I highly encourage you to sign up to his newsletter or follow him on LinkedIn – the man is a genius & very generous!

If you resonate with the challenges in this article, then EOS might help – Let’s have a chat!

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE

In the spirit of keeping good company, here is this week’s quote:
