BETTER BUSINESS

Take advantage of the great resignation!

We’ve heard a lot about the great resignation. It’s an employee’s market. They can demand whatever they want in the current environment. It’s hard to find people in the current environment.

With the pandemic affecting us all at home & at work, it’s no wonder some people are questioning whether they are happy in their current role if it fulfils them & then looking outside for new opportunities. In fact, 48% of people are apparently looking for their next role.

In my opinion, though, people who are happy don’t generally look to move on & people who are looking are usually looking because they were unfulfilled in their last role, not normally because of money. A recent Gallup poll confirms this.

Gallup has found that it’s disengaged workers who are at the highest risk of leaving. It takes more than a 20% pay raise to lure most employees away from a manager who engages them, and next to nothing to poach most disengaged workers. High-quality managers who inspire and support their teams are an effective moat of protection for retaining their most talented workers.

Surely this gives us a massive opportunity to seek out the right people for our organisation.

To do this, we need to ensure they feel valued, give them a purpose, a sense of belonging, show them how they can advance through the organisation & help them have a great relationship with their bosses.

And this starts way before the employment process.

So, what are you doing to ensure that when they look you up, they quickly get a sense of who you are & what you offer?

This article will help you to highlight your company differentiators & help you to start securing the right people for your business but also retain good people:

BETTER LIFE

Life is too short…

It’s the beginning of a saying that I use often because it became abundantly clear to me when I lost my brother & my Mum a few years ago, within 10 months of each other. At 44 & 72, both were too young to die! And it made me question everything in my life… Would I be happy if I died tomorrow?

This is why I live by the mantra of life is too short to not be doing what you love, with people you love.

In this article from the EOS Mastery blog, Ben Berman talks about how you need to really WANT to do. For leaders, this means delegating & elevating. And for team members, it’s making sure that it really is a HELL, YES, because if not, then it should be a NO, THANK YOU.

FIND OF THE WEEK

People + Learning = Results

Good learning & development is critical to businesses of all sizes. It will steer you through change… it’s an indispensable part of building your future business capability.

According to the experts, a good learning environment offers 4 major benefits:

  • Allows your people to gain personal growth, while your business gains adaptability and strategic alignment.
  • Learning and development is a cheaper way to build capability than recruitment
  • Makes employment at your business more desirable by strengthening your internal brand.
  • Turn the table on losing institutional knowledge and skills.

You’re probably thinking… “It’s easy for the really large companies, they have Learning & Development teams that can guide the organisation through this & they have the huge budgets. But how do mid-sized businesses do this within their budget & resources?”
